digital, exhibition design, set design
In 2020, the BFI London Film Festival established the new category "XR and Immersive art" under the title LFF EXPANDED. Since then, the festival has been held annually in different formats.
In 2020, the festival will take place in a virtual format with a VR exhibition and digital panels on YouTube. A physical venue in the BFI Southbank building will be used and staged as an access point for the virtual venue.
For the virtual editions, the VR exhibition "The Expanse" will be designed to enable different virtual presentations. The platform includes a virtual reception area, a virtual replica of the real cinema auditorium in the BFI Southbank building, the virtual exhibition spaces and virtual live performances.
All areas had to be conceived and designed from scratch and were realised by the VR producers on this basis.
Based on the real venue at the BFI Southbank, the virtual venue is also designed in a brutalist style and set under the River Thames. The works are virtually staged spatially according to their content using assets, light and sound settings.
