set design, digital
The MAGIC BLACK BOX is a joint project of the Komische Oper Berlin and the Berliner Ensemble to provide pupils with a digital tool for discovering the different areas of work involved in a theatre production.
After selecting a drama or an opera, users are introduced to the dramaturgical and stage design work by answering questions and creating their very own set design in a playful and intuitive way. At the end, users can access the entire digital repository and add further props.
For the six dramas and operas available for selection, the aim is to design diverse stage designs with elements that can be combined with one another. The questions to be answered by the users are developed from this in dialogue with Antje Schupp as the artistic director. The aim is that even if the same work is selected, the individual interpretation of the users can create different stage settings. Based on the developed design collages and linked reference assets, the stage settings are realised by the 3D designer and the Web Development.
