As part of the Places Festival 2021, lala.ruhr is developing a programme under the motto imagine green urban spaces. In this context, three teams are developing augmented reality visions for a greener & visionary future on different sections of the Bochumer Straße in Gelsenkirchen.
The design AM BERGMANNPLATZ focuses on the discovery of urban nature and the curiosity of visitors to the future Bergmannplatz. Diversely planted natural islands create various poetic moments in Bochumer Straße. With reference to visual axes, directions of movement and the course of the tram, insect-friendly plantings, flower-filled retreats and sheltered meeting places in the urban space are visualised.
Coming from the south, the wildflower field creates a colourful attraction even from a distance. As you pass, narrow paths open up to retreats hidden in the sea of flowers. Further along the road, a flower-covered tunnel structure creates a visual experience for passengers on the tram travelling through. At the fork in the road leading to Bergmannstraße, tall trees line the square, inviting people to play boules, swing, drink coffee and linger between the trees. Tall flowering shrubs draw the eye round the corner to Bergmannstraße and conceal a small pond covered with water lilies. The pergola forms the last island, a séparée planted with vines. Under the vines, the evening can be spent sheltered from the tram traffic.
The concept is being realised by city.scaper for the AR application. For the other construction phases, the Cologne-based firm Greenbox Landschaftsarchitekten and the Berlin agency pimento formate are developing visions. In a fourth section along Bochumer Straße, visitors will then be able to get active themselves and not only provide greenery, but also wish for elephants, zebras and sofas.
